The current course closure has been extended indefinitely as of May 18, and will not be re-opened on Memorial Day weekend as originally planned. The extension of the closure is due to the continued drought conditions, which is significantly stressing the Ponderosa Pines within the park. This stressed condition also makes them highly susceptible to wounds from being struck by discs. Staff will continue to assess the health of the trees and natural environment throughout the course and will be taking measures to improve the overall health of the forest and ensure the unique environment which makes the course so special can be preserved. Check back on occasion for updates.
In late 2017, the Park Board directed staff to develop and install an 18-hole disc golf course in Evans Park to offer another recreational activity for the community. Staff worked with local players Cameron Burrow and Jeremy Priest to design the first 9 holes. After months of playing, hearing from other players, and approval to install an additional 9-holes, the course was re-designed and expanded. The first tee is located just off the parking area for the pond.
Please be respectful of this special natural environment when playing by minimizing your impact and by packing out all litter / trash. Also, watch your steps and avoid the prickly pear cactus throughout the area. Be considerate of other park users by using a spotter on blind throws, and avoid smoking while on the course due to the potential of wildfires.
Want to play but not sure you want to invest in a set of discs? You can now rent a set of discs (driver, midrange, putter) at the park office for $5. The park office is open Monday through Friday from 9am until 5pm. No rentals are available outside of these days / times.
Whether you are a seasoned veteran player or someone who has never played at all, come on out and let us know what you think of the course!
